Condom Availability in High Schools

Vea información en español

Student health and wellness is critical to student achievement. As you may have read, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are jeopardizing student health. Montgomery County has seen significant rise in STIs among youth ages 15-29. To address this emerging health crisis, the Board of Education voted unanimously to address student sexual health and wellness by directing Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) administration to:

  • Collaborate with the Department of Health and Human Services DHHS to strengthen the MCPS comprehensive health education curriculum, especially in the content area standard of disease prevention and control.
  • Develop an agreement with DHHS to make latex condoms and sexual health education available in all high school health rooms by October 1, 2018.

Read the Resolution

As a result of this resolution, MCPS developed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DHHS to define the protocols, roles, and responsibilities regarding condom availability and education in high schools.

MCPS has also created a Frequently Asked Questions document (FAQ) that speaks to potential questions or concerns you may have.
