Dear Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary School Students, Families, and Community Partners:

Since 2020, I have had the privilege to be the Principal of Lucy V. Barnsley ES. I started my career in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School where I served as a 2nd Grade teacher and Title I Gifted and Talented Specialist. I received my Masters in Reading Education from the University of Maryland, College Park (GO TERPS!!).  After graduation, I became an adjunct professor and taught a Reading Assessment class to undergraduates.  After working at UMD for a few years, I became a Reading Specialist in MCPS.  I served in this role both at Brookhaven ES and Somerset ES.  I had the honor of working in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction for three years as an Elementary Integrated Curriculum Specialist in reading.  While working as an Instructional Specialist, I completed my Administration and Supervision Certificate Program through Hood College.  Upon completion of the program, I moved into school administration, where I have served as an Assistant Principal at Waters Landing ES, Principal Intern & Assistant Principal at Arcola ES.

As principal, I look forward to working collaboratively with the Barnsley staff, parents, and community in order to provide a rigorous academic instructional program through respect, communication, and high expectations to maximize achievement for all of our students.

On a personal note, I was born and raised in Montgomery County and graduated from Quince Orchard High School. I am an avid Washington area sports fan. GO COMMANDERS!!!  I have 3 children who are now all out of high school and a “pandemic” American Foxhound rescue dog named Ginger.  My home away from home is Tennessee as most of my siblings and extended family live just outside of Knoxville.

As a fellow parent and educator, I am committed to making sure our school is a great place for staff to work and an excellent place for students to learn.  We are so fortunate to have many special programs here at Barnsley including our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program (DHOH), Twice Exceptional Program (2E), and Center for Enriched Studies (CES). I want ALL of our Barnsley students to feel like they are part of our family.  Our mission of BEARS_C.A.R.E. reflects our charge to create Create Learning Partnerships, Act Responsibly, Rise to the Challenge, and Establish a culture of acceptance and inclusion.

It continues to be an honor and a privilege to serve as the leader of this amazing community. I look forward to our continued partnership.

Sincerely,

Chris Robertson
Principal
