About Kindergarten
At Belmont Elementary we believe that a child’s early years play a unique and important role in their development. Learning occurs when children are actively involved, both physically and cognitively, in experiences that are developmentally appropriate. These practices include all areas of development: social, emotional, cognitive and physical.
During our day the children have opportunities for large and small group as well as individual activities. Therefore, the curriculum is responsive to each child’s needs and abilities. Children are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities for decision-making, planning, and problem-solving.
The MCPS Integrated Curriculum blends reading, language arts, and math instruction with lessons in science, social studies, music, art, and P.E. in a way that spurs creativity and critical thinking skills.
