The adventures of fourth grader Peter and his unusual little brother named Fudge.
Mr. Beares says: Fudge was my favorite chapter book character when I was growing up. This book introduced us to the lovable Hatcher family. Fudge still makes me laugh today.

Joey, who takes medication to keep him from getting "too wired", spends the summer with his father, a questionable role model who is obsessed with turning Joey into a baseball star.
Mr. Beares says: Joey is a wonderful character that a lot of today's children can relate to because of his parent's divorce and his need for medication. He is often torn between doing what he thinks is right versus what his father wants. Seeing how he handles himself during these difficult choices is a real treat for readers.

The Three Little Pigs

Steven Kellogg's version of the well known fairy tale has Serafina Sow opening a waffle business and then giving it to her three sons.
Mr. Beares says: Steven Kellogg loves to retell some of his old favorites, and this version of the famous tale is the one I enjoy sharing with my students. I like the idea of the pigs having a waffle business. Hold the bacon!
