Spanish Immersion at BMES

Burnt Mills Elementary is proud to be one of an elite set of MCPS schools who host a language immersion program. The goals of the program are to develop the abilities of students to understand, speak, read, and write in both English and Spanish.  The Spanish Immersion Program follows the MCPS curriculum at all grade levels.  Spanish immersion students receive instruction in all subject areas in Spanish.  Students in Fourth and Fifth Grade have opportunities for Reading and Writing instruction in both languages.   All MCPS elementary school students are welcome to apply!  Entry into the SI Program is by lottery.  No Spanish skills are required when applying to grades K or 1.   Students in grade 2-5 will have their Spanish Skills evaluated.  You can find more information on the Spanish Immersion tab on this website.

Character Counts:

Burnt Mills Elementary implements Character Counts® as our school-wide character and counseling program.  We use the Six Pillars of the Character Counts Program to teach and promote excellent character.   At Burnt Mills ES, we encourage all students and staff to demonstrate our Core Values.   Learn more about our SEL programs at the Counselor's Corner.
