Personal Mobile Device (PMD) Policy in Place for MCPS Students

Elementary School students in MCPS are not permitted to use personal mobile devices (cell phones, watches, tablets) in class during instruction, during lunch/recess, or between classes or transition periods.

If there is a need for your child to have a PMD during school hours, they are responsible for ensuring that their PMDs are turned off and kept out of sight during times of unauthorized use. Students are responsible for ensuring that their PMDs are managed securely at all times.

Students may use their devices before or after the school day when riding to or from school or school-sponsored activities on an MCPS school bus as long as the use does not impact the safe operation of the bus and complies with MCPS regulations.

Students who fail to comply with MCPS policy on the use of PMDs are subject to disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct - p.14 - “Inappropriate Use of Personal Electronics - 802”

MCPS will assume no responsibility or liability for loss, theft, or damage to a device or for the unauthorized use of any such PMD.

The kindergarten registration window is open now through April 12th. If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2024, read, “MCPS 4-Step Registration Process” to learn how to get your child enrolled and more.
