School and Community News…

⭐ Attention Parents of 5th grade students!

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) offers enriched and accelerated programming in local middle schools and regional middle school magnet programs (Grades 6–8).  

The Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) is interest-based and is composed of three magnet-themed middle schools which include, Argyle, A. Mario Loiederman, and Parkland middle schools. Grade 5 students are eligible to apply beginning this fall on the MSMC website, and placement is by lottery. The first MSMC parent presentation will take place on September 23, 2024.  Read more about the programs at each school and the MSMC timeline here

⭐ Burtonsville Day Parade (event flier) - Saturday, September 21st. Make signs, wear your Burtonsville t-shirt, or our school colors (blue & yellow), and come out to show your school spirit and represent Burtonsville Elementary! 

The parade route starts at 10:00 AM at Paint Branch High School and ends at 11:00 AM at the Marilyn Praisner Recreation Center where a festival carries on until 3:00 PM and it's Free! Come out and line the parade route to see, celebrate and join in the fun! Inclement Weather and Emergency School System Closures: 

The safety of our MCPS community is critical, and being able to communicate with students, staff, and families during severe weather or other emergencies is of the utmost importance. Meal benefit eligibility from last school year will remain current only through the first 30 scheduled school days OR until a 2024-2025 application is processed.

Online applications are available now for Free and Reduced-price Meals for the 2024-2025 school year. Questions? Please call 240-740-7400.

Apply online at MySchoolApps.com (translations available) Click here for an English video tutorial.  Please complete the FARMS application, even if you think you do not qualify. We have had parents think they don’t qualify so they don’t fill out the forms. 

Students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals will not be charged for lunch.
