Piano Club

Introduction to Piano classes are offered by the College Gardens PTA for children in grades 2 through 5. Students meet once a week for 45 to 60 minutes. Depending on the school calendar there will be 26-28 classes during he school year. Class times and sizes vary depending on the student's age, interest and musical ability. Classes are taught in groups of 6-10 students. This makes classes available at a lower cost and provides a competitive stimulus that generally motivates the students toward greater achievement. During the lessons each child takes turns at the piano while classmates play on simulated or on powered keyboards. Note reading, theory, ear training, harmony and sight reading are covered.

Piano club is a "closed" club meaning that only the students who entered at the second grade beginner level advance to the intermediate and so on.   New students to the intermediate or advanced group are only accepted upon receipt of a recommendation letter from a previous piano instructor stating that the child has had the equivalent of one-two previous years of instruction and can maintain the level of playing difficulty.

A tuned piano or full sized electronic keyboard must be available at home for daily practice.
