Please congratulate Briana Manzanarez , Jenssel Soto and Alfredo Marin for their 2nd place award and Gian Whigan, Lennart Carpio and Brighton Munjayi for their 3rd place award in the Montgomery County Government "Keeping it Safe" PSA contest to prevent under-21 alcohol use.
We just got back from a wonderful ceremony at the Montgomery County Public Safety Building with 4 representatives from our EMAL class (Odalis Garcia, Jenssel Soto, Briana Manzanarez, and Gian Whigan.) They received certificates, a 2nd place trophy, and they also each won an Amazon gift card in a raffle for student participants. Additionally, we received checks for $250 and $500 to be put towards the EMAL program so that we'll be able to purchase much needed video equipment.
There were only 4 awards given in the high school division of this contest, and to have two of these awards earned by groups of ESOL students is really special. As directors, Briana and Gian each read a prepared statements at the podium in front of many people, including the current and former chief of police. The entire ceremony was recorded by MCPS Instructional TV and will be played back on their channel. Briana and Gian deserve a great deal of credit for speaking as ESOL students in front of this crowd.
Special thanks to Ms. Iliouk, Mr. Roberts and Ms. Njaba for taking care of the students who did not attend the trip during period 3 today. Thank you to Mr. Ramos and Mr. Fernandez for helping with the approval of the trip this morning and enabling our students to participate. And thank you to Alberto Jimenez for helping to organize the students who came early this morning, and ensuring that everyone left behind was accounted for.
And thanks to all of you for your support of the EMAL program!
