The Library Collection

Anyone can search Forest Knolls's library collection through our Destiny Catalog site. Students can suggest a book for our collection in person or through this form (must be logged in to your school Google MCPS account).

Instruction

Students in grades preK through grade 5 visit the library media center for information literacy instruction, literature appreciation, and book exchange. MCPS uses the Digital Citizenship curriculum developed by CommonSense Education to encourage thoughtful engagement with online technology. The library media specialist collaborates with staff to develop and implement lessons integrating information literacy skills into all areas of instruction.

Black-Eyed Susan Book Award

The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award is Maryland's student choice award that has been awarded each year since 1992. Read more about the award on the Maryland Association of School Librarians's website here. Check out this site created by MCPS Media Specialist Jeanette Marin more information on the current nominees.

Chromebooks

PreK through Grade 4

Forest Knolls uses a cart-model for students through grade 4. Students have access to devices during the school day. If you would like to request a chromebook for your student to use at home, please use this Google form. Requests are processed and approved centrally and may take several weeks. Once approved, devices are sent home with the student and should remain at home as long as needed. All use of chromebooks should comply with MCPS Acceptable Use Policy.

Grade 5

In 5th grade, Forest Knolls students are assigned a device and charger and expected to use it for school work according to MCPS policy. These devices will be returned to the school at the end of grade 5 as students transition to middle school.
