Student Safety:

  • Student safety is very important at GMS. Please follow these procedures to keep students safe at arrival and dismissal.
  • Students should be dropped off and picked up in the car loop near the aquatics center.
  • Please pull forward in the car loop to avoid a backup of traffic on Teacher’s way.
  • No students should be dropped off or picked up in the bus loop, on Teacher’s way or the parking lot near the cafeteria. These are both unsafe locations for students.
  • Thanks for helping us keep our students safe.

Chromebook Expectations:

This week students will be assigned a chromebook that they will carry throughout the day to all their classes. Please review these expectations with your child.

  • I agree to use my assigned Chromebook in accordance with MCPS’ IGT-RA acceptable use policies.
  • I agree to tell a staff member if my Chromebook is lost, stolen, or damaged immediately.
  • I agree to return the device each school day in good working order.
  • I agree that misuse/abuse of the Chromebook may result in my inability to use it during my classes.
  • I agree to cover repair or replacement charges if the damage or loss is due to misuse.
  • I agree to keep my Chromebook safe and secure at all times.
    • I will store my Chromebook under my desk while eating breakfast during 1st
    • I will use two hands to carry my Chromebook between classes.
    • I will store my Chromebook in my locker during lunch and PE class.
    • I will return my Chromebook to the correct numbered spot in its cart in 1st period each day, making sure that it is plugged in so that it will be charged for use the next day.
    • I will not attempt to remove or damage the serial number and identifying sticker on the Chromebook.
    • I will not attempt to remove the keys, screen cover, or plastic casing on the Chromebook.
    • I will not use someone else’s Chromebook.
    • Chromebooks must be kept in the school building.
  • I agree to use my Chromebook only for educational purposes and only to access approved websites and applications.

Replacement & Repair

  • If the Chromebook is damaged, the student/family may be responsible for the costs associated with repair or replacement (a financial obligation).
  • I can be held accountable for damage or loss of another student’s Chromebook if I was the last known person to use it.

 Vaccine Requirements and Free Immunization Clinics:

  • All 7th and 8th graders must have up to date immunizations for Tdap and MCV vaccine.
  • Please bring documentation to the nurse.
  • Students without proof of vaccination must be excluded from school beginning September 24th until documentation is received.
  • See the GMS webpage for free immunization clinics.

Yearbooks

  • Yearbooks are now on sale.  The special "Back To School" price is $35.00.  This is the lowest price of the year!!  The price will go up on September 28th.   You can order online by going to the Gaithersburg Middle School website and clicking on the link to Josten's.   

Vision Hearing Screen Dates:

  • September 11, 12, 13 (All 8th grade students, students new to MCPS and students referred by staff) will participate in vision and hearing screening during the school day.
  • The vision and hearing screening will take place during PE classes

Our GMS campaign for the first two weeks of school is:  You Count!

  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their and go to a town hall meeting by grade level to hear a presentation the MCPS Rights and Responsibilities and Code of Conduct.

Tuesday, September 10, 2019

  • Students follow their schedule periods 1-7
  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their homeroom 7th and 8th grade students go to a town hall meeting by grade level to hear a presentation about Viking Time. Students will return to homeroom to vote on their choice using a google form. This will provide us student voice on the Viking Time decision.
  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their homeroom 6th grade students will stay in homeroom and learn tips on staying organized.
  • During lunches male students interested in the Guys of GMS club. There will be meetings during all three lunches.

  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their homeroom and write their schedule for Back to School Night to give their parents and hear a presentation on Religious Diversity and Gender Identity.

Thursday, September 12, 2019

  • Students follow their schedule periods 1-7
  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their homeroom 10:40 – 11:10AM Students go to homeroom and the fire drill procedures will be reviewed. A practice fire drill will be conducted.
  • 5:00 PM The health night is for 7th and 8th grade parents and guardians. The health night covers family life and human sexuality AND disease prevention and control units.  These units are not taught to grade 6 students.
  • 6:00 PM Back to School Night We will start with a general introduction by the PTA followed by a time to go through your student’s schedule and hear from your children’s teachers. The year will be busy, exciting, and hopefully very rewarding for each student.   We want you to join us in making this the very best experience for your children.  Being informed is critical. 

Friday, September 13, 2019

  • 10:40 AM-11:10 AM Students go to their homeroom to learn about Viking Time and participate in a game.
  • 5:00-7:00 PM. GMS Back-to-School Cookout sponsored by the PTA and GMStrong. Staff and families will be provided free food, the opportunity to play soccer and football and have fun!
