More about us...
We are a professional learning community of dedicated educators who are committed to providing a respectful and equitable education that prepares every student to be a life-long learner and successful citizen. We believe all students can progress and grow in academic and social/emotional learning through rigor, collaborative structures and communicating high expectations by all stakeholders.
At the present time, we have over 560 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. Our student body is very diverse with over 24 languages represented. Our students come to school each day ready to learn. A climate of mutual respect supports the cooperative learning of our students who strive to exhibit the Goshen Grizzly BEAR characteristics:
Goshen ES implements the MCPS new curriculum, Eureka, is a Restorative Practices Grant school and focuses on differentiation and small group instruction. Data on student performance is continuously collected and analyzed in order to plan for appropriate instruction. Grade level teams work together at least two times weekly to review the data and to plan collaboratively.
We are currently implementing Eureka and have begun testing out the new Reading Curriculum through Benchmark. Other programming to support our reading instruction includes reading and math interventions, William and Mary Reading Program, Junior Great Books, Jacob’s Ladder. Writing instruction occurs daily and is a huge focus for the intermediate level grades.
At Goshen ES, we implement the Home School Model which provides the opportunity for our special education students to be in their home school with their neighborhood peers. Our special education staff, along with our regular education staff, have been trained in co-teaching and inclusion.
Student leadership and talent are developed through our extracurricular activities, such as:
- Safety Patrols
- SERT/Green Team
- Fifth Grade Chorus
- Student Government
Goshen ES has a highly involved PTA with many parent volunteers. Besides assisting in classrooms and chaperoning on field trips, our strong parent group sponsors:
- Welcome Back Family Picnic
- Book Fair
- Read Aloud Day
- One School One Book
- Family Heritage Night
- Talent Show
We are proud of our school and our staff, parents, and students. We invite you to visit Goshen ES and be a part of our professional learning community. Check out all the LINKS on our website to see the latest happenings at each grade level and with our PTA.
