Media Center Information
Staff: Karen Crossley, Media Specialist
Susan Carlin, Media Assistant
Hours: Schooldays, 7:55am - 3:15pm for reading, research, study, and book selection
The Media Center is open to our students, staff and parents. The Media Center supports the instructional program at Hoover Middle School by providing formal instruction to students on how to access, evaluate and use a wide range of highly reliable print and electronic resources. The Media Center also contains an inviting selection of recreational reading materials to appeal to all tastes and reading abilities.
We hope you will visit often and ask for assistance.
Coming to the Media Center: Signed passes are required during the school day. Lunch Bunch passes are available before lunch on days when no mid-day classes are scheduled in the Media Center, availability is posted and announced each morning. Lunch should be eaten in the cafeteria before coming to work in the Media Center. When the Media Center is open for Lunch Bunch on nice weather days, the patio may also be open, and students may eat lunch on the patio. No passes are needed before or after school.
Checking out books: Students can have up to 4 books checked out at a time. Books circulate for 3 weeks, but may be renewed if there is no waiting list. Students with overdue books cannot check out additional books until the overdue ones are returned or renewed. Overdue notices are distributed bi-weekly during first period.
Reference and Special Reserve books may be checked out at the end of 7th period but must be returned to the Media Center before the start of class the next day.
Magazines and Newspapers: Current issues remain in the Media Center. Back issues of magazines not retained for research are made available to students.
Computers: Hoover and MCPS guidelines for computer use must be observed. Guidelines are listed in the Student Handbook.
Photocopier: Available for student use at 10 cents a copy. Exact change is needed.
Suggestions: We welcome them! Let a media staff member know what books or magazines you would like to see in the Media Center.
