Good evening Cavalier Families. This is Ms. Adamson–Proud Principal of Kennedy High School–with your February 17th weekly update!
There is no school tomorrow, Monday, February 17th. It is President’s Day, a federal holiday to observe the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Here is an important message from MCPS Office of Facilities Management: An MCPS team and other contractors have been working diligently to address an issue with two sections of sewage drain pipes that were causing drainage problems in the building. These sections have now been fully repaired, with proper backfilling completed to ensure long-term stability and prevent future issues. We will share additional updates through Remind on Monday regarding the status of the building and where we are with the floor repair, cleaning and sanitizing for the safe return of students and staff.
The Cavalier Cafe is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 18th,and is in honor of Black History Month. We especially want to welcome Black families to this event. We will present tutoring and mentorship opportunities and other supports to help students succeed. We will make sure that all families have something useful to take away that will help their students. The Wellness Center is sponsoring dinner, and we will have other community agencies there to connect families to useful resources. Please join us.
The Hall of Fame and 60th Anniversary celebration dinner has now been rescheduled for March 22nd.. There are still a limited number of tickets for sale. Please look on the school’s website. We are still accepting donations, as well. All of the information to purchase tickets, to contribute goods to the silent auction, or to make a donation can be found on the website.
On Wednesday, March 19th, all students in the 11th grade will take the SAT for free. Any 9th and 10th grader who wants to take the test can pay $41. Please see details on the website or in the SMORE newsletter for details.
Mark your calendars: The school year will be extended by one day, with the last day of school for students now scheduled as an early release day on Monday, June 16, 2025. Additionally, Friday, June 13, 2025, which was scheduled as an early release day, will now be a full instructional day for students. See the full explanation for this calendar change on the MCPS webpage.
Please continue to remind your students to wear their ID everyday (to avoid being charged for a new one). Remember that we are a closed campus, and the IDs help us to ensure that only our students are in the building, especially during lunch.
Thank you all for your support; and remember, we are stronger together.
