Dear Lakewood Families-
Happy February! I hope you had a fantastic weekend and are feeling energized for the week ahead!
We have an exciting lineup of activities as we begin our celebration of Black History Month. Highlights include guest authors and readers, morning announcements, engaging educational lessons, a door decorating contest, an interactive African storytelling assembly, and other meaningful events recognizing the many achievements and contributions of Black Americans. Black History IS American History.🖤❤️💛💚
Additionally, we extend heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Siwei Luo and Mrs. Cindy Nam for organizing a delightful Lunar New Year luncheon for our staff, with contributions from our wonderful community members. We are truly grateful for this thoughtful gesture!
This week’s restaurant night will be at Mama Lucia’s! We encourage you to stop by and show your support. If you place an online order, please remember to mention Lakewood Elementary so we can benefit from the proceeds. Thank you for your continued support! See the Flyer below for more details.
On Friday, we have two significant milestones to celebrate — the 100th day of school and the 1000th day of school for our fifth-grade seniors! If your child has been in school for the past six years (K-5), they have reached this impressive milestone. We’ll be sure to mark the occasion with joy, so stay tuned for more details.
Finally, don’t forget our Annual International Night Celebration, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the All Purpose Room (APR).This cherished tradition brings our community together, and we hope to see you there! See details below for more details.

Dear Lakewood Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the comparatively “balmy” weather! After weeks of temperatures in the low teens and single digits, the high 30s and 40s were certainly a welcomed treat.
I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Sharmila Kaldone and Mrs. Siwei Luo, our PTA Restaurant Night Co-Chairs, for organizing another successful event. Thanks to their efforts—and your support—our dine-out experience at Chipotle last week raised $310.80! All proceeds from this event will benefit our instrumental music program, so thank you again for your generosity and participation.
Please also note that there will be no school this Wednesday, as it marks the end of the current marking period and a professional day for staff. This is a time for reflection and preparation as we gear up for the next chapter of learning and growth.

Dear Lakewood Community,
Welcome to Week Sixteen of the school year! I hope you had a restful weekend and are gearing up for the final week of school in December 2024. A reminder that scholars and staff will be on Winter Break from 23 December 2024 to 1 January 2025.
I want to extend a tremendous shoutout of gratitude to Mrs. Donato, our General/Choral Music Teacher, and Ms. Weich, our Instrumental Music Teacher, for inspiring and teaching our young musicians. The winter concert was absolutely fantastic!
Additionally, I’d like to recognize the families who participated in Wootton High School’s Pee Wee Poms Clinic. It was such a delight to see so many of our Lakewood scholars showcasing their talents. While navigating two events in different locations was a bit tricky, it was truly worth it to witness both groups shine. These moments were incredibly special to me as your principal.

Dear, Lakewood Community-
Happy second day of Fall—it’s such a marvelous time of year. As we watch the seasons change, we also see our young scholars growing and evolving. We look forward to continuing great teaching, building relationships, and helping everyone thrive this season.

A big thank you to everyone who attended Back to School Night! I would also like to extend my gratitude to our PTA Fall Festival Chair, Mrs. Camilla Torrella, for organizing such an epic experience. Scholars, staff, and community members have all commented on the fun, the organization, the excitement, and the engaging activities. We had over 300 families and 20 staff members participate! What a success for our PTA and community-Thank you!
Please remember that Wednesday, 25 September 2024, is our first SY25 PTA-sponsored restaurant night. We encourage you to show your support by patronizing the participating vendors—details are included in this week’s news. Also, a reminder that Friday is an Early Release Day, with dismissal at 12:55 p.m. Please note that there will be no recess that day.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first PTA meeting of SY25—my principal’s message is linked here—and our third annual Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day. Special thanks to our front office staff, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Robinson, for their warm welcome, our assistant principal-Mrs. Levy, school counselor-Mrs. Gottesman, staff development teacher-Mrs. Khoury, and reading specialist-Mrs. Skrodzki for their incredible support in helping to organize the event, and our building services team, led by our phenomenal manager and assistant manager, Mrs. Chavez and Mr. Decesare, respectively. 

I especially want to take this opportunity to thank all the grandparents and grandfriends who joined us for the celebration on Friday, 6 September 2024. We had Grands from India, Africa, Switzerland, Ukraine, and, of course, good ole- Maryland! Our eldest grandparent in attendance was 82 ½ years young, while our youngest was 52. It was such a beautiful moment to honor and engage with the elders in our community, and the scholars absolutely loved it! We welcome your feedback about Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day—please feel free to share your thoughts by sending an email to me and/or Mrs. Levy directly.
