"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything."  Plato

General Music

In general music we explore the elements of music such as melody, rhythm, form, tone color and harmony. This is done through singing, movement, composing, analyzing and playing a variety of instruments. Students will have the opportunity to share their musical knowledge and achievement throughout their elementary school years.

Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music at Olney Elementary School is open to all fourth and fifth grade students. It's a great way to learn how to play a wind instrument or a string instrument! Students develop self-discipline in practicing music and performing in a group.

Included in this link are an instrument demo video, a list of music stores from which to rent instruments, and the registration form.  Mrs. Brooks has visited 4th and 5th grade classrooms to talk about the instrumental music program and the instruments offered at Olney.  Students beginning on an instrument this year may choose from the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone.  (Students who played clarinet last year may choose alto saxophone if wished.) Students will be enrolled on their first choice instrument listed on their county registration form, provided it is one of the instruments listed.
