If your child is going to be arriving late to school or will be absent from school for any reason, please complete this Student Absence Form.

Report an Absence, Late Arrival, or Early Departure:

Absences:

The best way to report your student’s absence is to complete the online attendance notification form. If you cannot complete the form, you can email Winessa_R_Crutchfield@mcpsmd.org and Ms. Alison D’Aiutolo at Alison_M_D'Aiutolo@mcpsmd.org.

If you choose to call the school to report your student’s absence, please contact the main office at(240)740-4200 by 9:00 a.m. to let us know your student will be absent for the day. (You will still receive a connect-ed call in the evening to remind you to send in a signed absent note.)

Signed absent notes must be sent to the main office within three (3) days of the absence. Please include the student’s full name, grade, dates, and reason for the absence.  MCPS requires a doctor’s note when a student is absent for four (4) consecutive days or more.

Unexcused Absences

  • Caring for younger sibling(s)/relative
  • Vacationing/Trips Out of Town
  • Traffic/Broken down car
  • Family Emergency (unless excused by an administrator)
  • Overslept
  • Passport
  • Power Outage/Alarm Failure

Early Dismissal Procedures:

Students should turn in a signed parent note from home to the Main Office before school on the day of their early dismissal. If you forgot to send a note, please email Winessa_R_Crutchfield@mcpsmd.org and Ms. Alison D’Aiutolo at Alison_M_D'Aiutolo@mcpsmd.org with the early departure information. This should be done before your arrival time so that your student can be ready to leave through the Main Office when you arrive.  Showing up to request their release without proper notice to the school will only delay your request and possibly make you late for the appointment. Parents will be required to come into the school and sign out their child in the main office.

 Late Arrivals:

Students arriving late to school must sign in immediately at the Main Office. Please comply to avoid an unexcused late/absence. Students arriving more than 20 minutes late to their class will be marked absent for that period. They will be marked tardy if they come to class less than 20 minutes late. Three unexcused tardies in a class equals one unexcused absence for that period.

 Extended Leave/Travel:

The state guideline does not approve family travel as an approved absence. While we value the rich cultural experience traveling gives our students, unfortunately, traveling for five (5) or more days during the school year, regardless of the reason, is unexcused.

All travel requests should be sent to Mr. Green in writing at least two weeks ahead of time.

Connect-Ed Automated Calls:

Students marked absent from one or more periods during the day will receive a phone call from our automated notification system, Connect-Ed, that same day. (Parents, please note: If you called the main office to report your student’s absence for the day, you may still receive a call home in the evenings from Connect-Ed, as a reminder to submit a note)  If you are unaware of your student’s absence, please check ParentVue to see what teacher marked your student absent. It is between the student and teacher to see why they are marked absent for that particular class.
