Poolesville Senior wins an Opportunity Scholarship from College Board!
Jeffrey Guan, a senior is one of 25 students from 11 states to earn a $40,000 Opportunity Scholarship from the College Board. These scholarship recipients completed six key college planning steps. More information is available here. Congratulations Jeffrey!

2020 Maryland State DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Competition
Forty-two Poolesville students competed in a wide variety of business related activities against students from Whitman, Churchill, Blair, Wootton, RM, and many other public and private Maryland schools. To prepare, students took exams, wrote proposals, and created presentations. At the event, they pitched their ideas to industry judges. Twenty-five of our 9th-11th grade students placed and are now eligible to compete at the April, 2020 international DECA event in Nashville.
Freshman Design Entered in New York Fashion Week Show!
Stephanie LaPointe (9th grade) presented an original design at the New York Fashion Week show for hiTechMODA in the sustainable designers and Emerging Designers Category. Stephanie was invited as a 15 year old to present her dress from the Gallery Night as well as four other of her designs in competition with many other National designers. The winner of the Emerging Designers part has yet to be announced, but the fact alone that Stephanie as a 15 year old was competing against those other designers was talked about by many there as a rare event.
Journalist Student Named as Winner in The New York Times 5th Annual Student Review Contest
More than 2,300 young people entered the high school category, which was open for students ages 13-19. They wrote about everything from local restaurants and art exhibits to comedy shows and hidden architectural gems.

Student Elected as Maryland State Student Member of the Board Finalist!
Mr. Jason Wu, a junior at Poolesville High School, was elected by the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC) as one of the two finalists for the Maryland State SMOB at Saturday’s MASC Legislative Session. He led a tough campaign against 4 candidates from across the state. The other finalist is an incumbent, Ms. Noureen Badwi, a junior from Baltimore County, Maryland. The names and nomination packets for both finalists will be submitted to the Governor’s office where Governor Hogan will select one to serve and represent students from across the state. We should learn that result in spring.

Two Teams Reach CSAW Finals!
2 teams of 3 have qualified for the CSAW-Red Finals in New York City.

Chris Stallard, Rithvik Bhogavilli, and Aidan Goettsch qualified 5th in the nation.
Sadhana Lolla, Megha Tummalapalli, and Ishita Chatterjee qualified as one of the top 2 all-girls teams in the nation.
By qualifying for finals, each team member is awarded a scholarship to NYU Tandon School of Engineering. They will be awarded additional scholarship money if they place in the top 3 at nationals.
