School Information
Rockville High School, a comprehensive grade 9-12 high school, is geographically situated in the heart of Montgomery County. The beautiful 217,000 square foot, state of the art facility is the third largest in Montgomery County Public Schools. Yet with a student enrollment of 1252 students, RHS is the county’s second smallest high school.
As recent studies indicate, smaller high schools give students more opportunities to participate in activities, assume leadership positions, and feel a valued member of the school community. RHS students participate in a myriad of activities and are less likely to “fall through the crack” because the size of the school allows for individualized attention.
The mission of RHS is to graduate individuals who are knowledgeable, self-confident and prepared to meet the demands of a global economy. All students are encouraged to take the most rigorous courses possible and to stretch their abilities in all areas of coursework.
RHS offers several academies to address a wide spectrum of student interests. For the most academically capable, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and a wide range of Advanced Placement courses offer students rigorous coursework leading to college credit. The Project Lead the Way pre-engineering academy not only prepares students for engineering careers, but also gives them the opportunity to earn college credits. The Network Operations Academy is an intensive one-year program that prepares students for A+ certification. The Journalism Academy is comprised of the national-award-winning newspaper, the Rampage; TV productions, an internet radio station, the literary magazine and an all-color yearbook.
Special education programs, such as Autism, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Learning for Independence (LFI), offer services to special needs students who come to RHS from around the county. These students are valued members of the RHS community and give students in the regular education program multiple opportunities for service.
