Ceramic Mosaic of Maryland
Students in Ms. Diehl’s and Ms. Grasso’s classes created a large scale mosaic incorporating information that they discussed as we talked about the map of Maryland , the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and the official state symbols and flag of Maryland. Students began the clay work by creating letters to spell Maryland. They also glazed bisque tiles which were fired and broken.
The students referred to a map of Maryland to put the times together, similar to a jigsaw puzzle, to make the map of Maryland. They also created individual tiles of Maryland state symbols that were fired, glazed, and fired again. Some of these were incorporated into the mosaic as well.
