General Information
• A virtual education day for severe weather conditions can be provided only if all days incorporated into the calendar for school closures for severe weather conditions have been exhausted. These makeup days are designated in the 2024–2025 school year calendars. Two additional days have been built into the MCPS school year calendar for emergency closures beyond the required 180 school days for students. Any day beyond that will become an in-person makeup day for students and staff. (2024-2025 Traditional School Year Calendar)
• A virtual education day for severe weather conditions must include four hours of live, synchronous virtual instruction. Asynchronous virtual education days are no longer in effect.
• A Virtual education day will be determined at least one day in advance so that all staff, students and families can be notified and all necessary materials brought home.
• Our Severe Weather to Virtual Learning Schedule is similar to our 2-HR delay schedule (see below). Staff will open their Zoom sessions and begin admitting students by 9:55 AM with period 1 beginning promptly at 10:00 AM.
- Most classes are 34 minutes long with 4 minutes in between for students to open the Zoom link for their next class.
- There will be a 35 minute lunch break for everyone from 11:50 – 12:25. Period 4 will then begin promptly at 12:30.
