Summer Reading and Math

Things you and your family can do to prepare for a successful 26-27 School Year!

FOR all incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders

TPMS Summer Reading 2026

Attention rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders: During the summer, please complete one of the following assignments.  

• Summer Reading SSL Extension Assignment  Students will have the opportunity to select a book from a list connected to important social issues.  Students will earn 8 SSL hours for reading the book and creating a project to advocate for a specific social issue in the community.  See the assignment for directions and more information.

• Summer Reading Assignment:  Students are encouraged to read two texts and create a choice reflection to turn in at the beginning of the school year.  See the assignment for more information and directions. This assignment is not eligible for SSL hours. Please contact Ms. Todhunter with any questions about summer reading. Julia_Todhunter@mcpsmd.org

Summer Math

Math--FOR all incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders

• Download, print and complete your MCPS summer packet (open the links to find the right packet for you: Google Doc, Spreadsheet )

• Work on IXL! Yes! You will be able to use IXL over the summer! 

• Boost your math skills! Take the IXL diagnostic assessment once a week and dedicate 20+ minutes daily to your recommendations. This helps you understand your strengths and target areas for growth, improving your score. Access it on IXL: "Assessment" tab, then "Step into the Arena."
