Physical Education
MCPS middle school students participate in Physical Education daily. The program is designed to provide students with a wide variety of activities including lifetime/leisure, individual and team sports, and physical fitness. The purpose of this course is to develop the physical skills necessary to be competent in many forms of movement, knowledge of team sports and individual sports concepts such as offensive and defensive strategies and tactics, and appropriate social behaviors within a team, individual, or group setting. Units are identified by various game categories: Invasion, Net/Wall, Target, and Striking. Each category, by grade level, will have an emphasis on Grade Level Outcomes (GLOs) in which they will be assessed. Students will demonstrate a progression of these GLOs from 6th to 8th grade.
