Students enter the building at 9:10. This school year Wheaton Woods will be a part of the Maryland Meals for Achievement Classroom Breakfast Program. This means that every child will be fed breakfast at school. Breakfast will begin promptly at 9:10 and end at 9:20. The instructional day will begin promptly at 9:25.
Dismissal begins at 3:50. We thank you for your cooperation.
Lunch costs $2.25 and includes milk. Sold separately milk is $.50. Breakfast is also served beginning at 9:10 and is available to all students free of charge. If you feel your child may be eligible for free or reduced meals, the application sent home during the first week of school MUST be completed and either mailed (postage is prepaid) or returned to the school office. You can also complete the application online. If your child received free or reduced lunch during the last school year, he/she will continue to receive it for the first month of school, until the new application is approved. What is the school's homework policy?
No work will be assigned if important class or school activities are planned, or in the event of designated religious holidays. Parents are encouraged to set a regular time for recreational reading and to provide a "quiet time" each evening when reading and studying may occur without disruption.
What is the policy on delayed openings?
In the event of snow, extreme heat or other emergencies that force a closing or delayed opening of the school, radio and TV stations will be notified of the decision no later than 6:00 am. Do not call the school! If the opening of school will be delayed (so that the buses can operate under safer conditions), school buses will pick up students later than their regular time. If it is necessary to close schools early, TV and radio stations will be notified as soon as the decision is made. If schools are closed early, all afternoon and evening activities in the school building are automatically canceled. This includes athletic activities, adult education programs, PTA and recreation department meetings.
Does Wheaton Woods have a preschool program?
Yes. We have two programs for four-year-olds - Pre-K and Head Start. For registration procedures please call 301-230-0676.
Does Wheaton Woods offer before and after school care?
Yes. Kids Adventures offers before and after school care at Wheaton Woods Elementary School. The morning hours are from 6:30 to 9:10 and the afternoon hours are from 3:50 to 6:30. The program includes homework support, snacks, arts and crafts, and games. Please call 240-972-0789 or email wheatonswoods@kidsadventures.com for more information. Kids Adventures Academy for Early Learning offers services for children ages 2-5 years old. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. How much does it cost to join the PTA?
It only costs $10.00 to join the PTA. This amount goes to the National, State and Local PTA dues.
