At Walter Johnson High School, we are committed to supporting our diverse, multilingual, and multicultural student body. Our goal is to empower English learners to master the academic English necessary for success in school, college, careers, and as global citizens.
Program Overview:
The MCPS Department of English Learner and Multilingual Education (DELME) provides a comprehensive English Language Development (ELD) program designed to help students in grades 9-12 develop proficiency in academic English. This program is a collaborative effort involving the ELD teacher, classroom teachers, and all other appropriate MCPS staff, working together to ensure each student's success.
Our English Learner and Multilingual Education program at Walter Johnson High School includes:
- English Language Development Program: Tailored for students in grades 9-12, focusing on developing the English skills needed for academic achievement and beyond.
- Comprehensive Student Support: From identification to monitoring English language development and providing necessary services, our department works closely with students to meet the Maryland State Department of Education's English Language Proficiency Targets.
We believe that every student and family brings valuable experiences and knowledge that enrich our school community. We encourage parents to partner with us in the educational journey of their children, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
