Specific School Rules
Playground Standards of Behavior
Students will exhibit courteous, cooperative, and safe behavior.
Students will use appropriate language.
Students will stay out of the boundaries of other students’ games.
Students will exhibit good sportsmanship.
Consequences:
The student will be removed from the activity and have a time out.
If the inappropriate behavior continues, the student will write a note to his/her parent, which will be signed by the parent and teacher. The teacher will keep the note on file.
If the inappropriate behavior continues, the parent and student will meet with the principal.
LEAVING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE PLAYGROUND, AND ACTIONS THAT ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WILL RESULT IN THE STUDENT BEING IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE PLAYGROUND AND BEING ESCORTED TO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE. The student will write a note describing his/her actions and the parent and child will meet with the principal.
Guidelines for Playground Use
The following games are not allowed in any elementary schools: maul ball, football or any game that involves “body contact.” (Recreational soccer with no” body contact “is permitted, as this type of playing soccer does not require a referee. However, if a recreational soccer game becomes too aggressive, and the safety of students is a concern, the game will be terminated by the playground supervisors.)
Softball is permitted as long as the students wear the proper safety equipment and are under the direct supervision of a teacher.
All other games are permitted, provided that the players abide by the rules of game.
Playground supervisors or classroom teachers may suspend any game temporarily if there are too many players; or if students show poor sportsmanship or have trouble with rules interpretation.
- Kickball should be played on the softball fields using the backstop.
- Touch tag should be played on the grassy areas or on the circles on the blacktop as long as there is teacher supervision.
- The blacktop areas are for throwing and catching games, basketball, dodge ball games, four square, hopscotch, etc.
- Use the equipment properly. Rocks and sticks are not equipment and should not be thrown, or used in a game.
- Students should get permission before going into the building. The lavatories and the water fountain adjacent to the all purpose room are to be used during recess.
- Walk to the line when it is the “bell” rings to go back into the building.
- Physical education supplies for recess are provided. Students who check out the equipment are responsible for returning the equipment.
- With permission of their classroom teacher, students may bring their own play equipment to use on the playground; however, the school cannot be responsible for damage or loss of equipment. Electronic games, cassette players, etc., are not permitted on the playground.
Lunchroom Standards
- Students should be prepared for recess when they come to the lunchroom.
- Use good table manners:
- Chew food with mouth closed.
- Use spoon or fork properly.
- Speak softly with those nearest you.
- Students may leave their seat only when dismissed by the lunch table monitor or the lunchroom supervisor. At that time trash will be thrown away and lunch boxes will be placed in the basket.
- Students are responsible for cleaning their table, bench and floor area prior to dismissal.
- Students are to finish eating their lunch in the lunchroom.
- Students are dismissed to recess unless they are asked to stay in by their teacher. The teacher meets students at the door of the all purpose room and takes them to the classroom.
- Students may use the media center during recess, but must have a pass to do so.
- Students, when they are dismissed to recess are to walk single file quietly to the door to the playground.
Consequences:
- Students who exhibit inappropriate behavior will sit on the stage for the remainder of the lunch period. The classroom teacher will be notified.
- If the inappropriate behavior continues, the student will write a note to his/her parent describing the incident. The teacher and the parent will sign the note and the teacher will keep it on file.
- Students who continue to exhibit inappropriate behavior will meet with their parent and the principal to discuss the situation.
- ** Students who do forget to order lunch will go to the end of the grade level line.
Hall Standards
Students are to walk silently on the right side of the hall. Students are to keep their hands to themselves. Students are to walk in the “Magic Square”, the third block from the wall on the right side.
Consequences:
- The student will be asked to walk in proximity to the teacher.
- If the inappropriate behavior continues, the student will write a note to his/her parent describing his/her behavior and the note will be sent to his/her parent. The teacher and the parent will sign the note. The teacher will keep it on file.
- If the inappropriate behavior continues, the parent and child will meet with the principal.
Morning Line-Up Standards
Students are to exit their bus, and walk in a single file to their designated area. Students are to stand talking softly in homeroom groups.
Inclement Weather
After exiting the bus, students are to walk in a single file to the designated area inside the building and sit down. Students are to sit talking softly while waiting
Consequences:
- Patrol in charge will remind students of appropriate behavior.
- If inappropriate behavior continues, the patrol will write a report and the classroom teacher will be notified.
- The second time a student is reported by a patrol that student will write a note to his/her parent explaining his/her behavior. The teacher and the parent will sign the note. The teacher will keep this note on file.
- After a third report, the student and the parent will meet with the principal.
