National Standards for Music Education
1. Sing alone and in small ensembles with good breath control, technical accuracy, and expression.
a. Sing within a limited range with good posture, breath support, and clear diction
b. Develop an awareness of the physiology of singing.
2. Demonstrate high standards of performance.
3. Read, notate and sight-read music.
a. Read and perform simple rhythm and pitch patterns
b. Follow an assigned vocal part while singing from a choral octavo. Three part singing will be included.
4. Listen to, analyze, and describe choral music.
5. Perform music representative of diverse cultures, styles, and languages.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of music as an essential aspect of history and human experience.
7. Demonstrate improvisational skills in a choral setting.
8. Demonstrate the ability to organize musical ideas and sounds creatively.
9. Demonstrate the ability to make aesthetic judgments.
