About Policies and Regulations

students reading It is the responsibility of the Montgomery County Board of Education Policy Management Committee to meet and develop or revise MCPS policy as necessary. The committee meets with appropriate staff to develop a draft policy (or to make revisions to policy) which it then presents to the Board for discussion and action.

Current Policies for Public Comment

Policy JGA, Student Discipline 

On August 21, 2014, the Board of Education (Board) tentatively adopted Policy JGA, Student Discipline. The policy has been updated to align with new state regulations and affirm the Board’s commitment to a disciplined learning environment that is safe, positive, and respectful; increases student engagement; boosts student achievement; and, prevents student misbehavior before it occurs. Revisions to Policy JGA also align with guidelines recently released by the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice regarding school discipline.

Individuals who wish to provide comments should respond in writing by October 24, 2014. All responses will be shared with the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools.

Policy DNA, Management of Board of Education Property 

On May 13, 2014, the Board of Education tentatively adopted Policy DNA, Management of Board of Education Property. This policy provides for the disposal of Board of Education property. The updated policy includes changes to the purpose and additional language about authorization, fair market value, preapproval for modifications, right of reclamation, and preferred use of property.
