Meet The School Counselors

 Ms. Dobres and Mrs. Allen

As the School Counselor I will promote emotional, social, and career growth for each student. I will build a rapport with the students, teachers, families, and community members to better Garrett Park Elementary School as a whole. I will work with each student to help him or her achieve academic success and personal growth. I will work with students' families and the community to ensure learning goes beyond the school walls. I will encourage students to become life-long learners who are successful in all areas of development. Through the school counseling program, students will achieve a positive, healthy outlook towards themselves and others as they move through their developmental stages.

The school counseling program will enable all students to experience educational success by providing guidance in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development.

I will provide counseling to help students overcome challenges that interfere with learning and advocate for an environment that supports high achievement for all students.

Greetings! My name is Stacy Dobres, and I am so happy to be the full-time counselor at Garrett Park  Elementary School.  This year I will be working with grades K, 2, 4 and 5.   I look forward to collaborating with Garrett Park staff, and families, to ensure that all  students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

I am a proud graduate of Montgomery County Public Schools. I earned my B.A, in Psychology,  and Elementary Education, from Western Maryland College, and I taught fourth and second grades in MCPS for seven years. After earning an M.S, in Counseling, from Johns Hopkins University, I counseled  at the middle school level in MCPS for eight years, and was the school counselor at Woodlin Elementary School for the past seven years.  This will be my twenty third year in Montgomery County Public Schools.

In my free time, I play on multiple volleyball teams and I love spending time with my infant daughter.  Additionally, I love going to the theatre and attending Ravens football games.

I am looking forward to a great year at Garrett Park Elementary School! If any questions arise  throughout the year, please feel free to contact me.  240-740-0700

It is the counselor’s role to support students so they can at their best at school, academically, socially and  emotionally. In order to do this the Garrett Park ES Counseling Program has several components.

For Students

Monthly Classroom Counseling Lessons – Topics include respect, friendship, and bullying. Individual Counseling – Students are identified through parent, teacher and self-referral.

Counseling Groups – Groups could meet at lunch or throughout the day. Themes are determined by need at each  grade level. Popular topics are social skills, study skills, self-esteem, anger management and family changes. Grade Level Lunch Bunches - Students have an opportunity to have lunch Bunch in my office just for fun. It helps  me get to know individual students better, and also provides students, who are not comfortable talking in a large  group setting, a chance to express themselves in a smaller group.

For Staff/Parents Consultation- I am available to meet with parents and staff (sometimes together) to discuss student  and family concerns.
