March 2018

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information regarding our upcoming dates that we have scheduled for the Partnership for Assessment of readiness for College and careers (PARCC) tests. This year Maryland students in grades 3 through high school will be taking these assessments in April and May. On the dates designated below, you will find the dates and times that Lakewood Elementary school students will be testing. For all students not scheduled for testing, instruction will continue as unusual. Please do not schedule any out-of-school appointments during your child’s designated testing dates. We ask that students are well-rested and focused on testing dates.

We are working diligently to ensure that all Lakewood Elementary School students are comfortable with the PARCC assessment tools and practice tests prior to taking the assessments. We also encourage you to take a look at the PARCC practice tests with your child through the following website: http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-test/. PARCC also has a parent resource page at the following website:  https://parcc-assessment.org/parent-resources/. As we begin to prepare for the assessments, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) also has a website aimed at helping parents become more familiar with the PARCC, its expectations and understanding score reports that you will receive in the mail.        http://www.marylandpublicschools.org/programs/pages/Testing/PARCC/index.aspx.

Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact Ms. Roux, School Test Coordinator, if you have any questions at 301-279-8465.

                                                                                                                   Respectfully,
