Free SAT for All Juniors: Wednesday, March 7

As part of the Fiscal Year 2018 Operating Budget, MCPS has allocated funding for students to take the SAT during the school day free of charge.  At Northwest, all 11th grade students will be automatically registered to take the SAT on Wednesday, March 7.

Please note that the SAT during the school day in MCPS will be administered without the optional essay. If students/parents wish to take the SAT with essay, options include:

  1. Participate in the SAT during the school day (without the essay) and register for a future SAT national administration with the essay on a Saturday.
  2. Decline to participate in the SAT during the school day and register for an SAT national administration with the essay on a Saturday.

The SAT national administration dates in spring 2018 for which students can still register are May 5, 2018, and June 2, 2018.  The test is offered at various sites throughout Montgomery County and the surrounding region.  Students and parents can register online at

If students elect to take the SAT with the essay on a Saturday instead of taking the SAT during the school day, we have a limited number of ACT vouchers that students can use to take the ACT free of charge on Saturday, April 14, or Saturday, June 9.  If you are interested in this option, please contact Ms. Ellen O’Connell, resource counselor, at ellen_c_o’  no later than Wednesday, February 21.

Supporting After Prom 2018

Northwest will once again host an all-night after prom party to keep our kids safe and off the roads on prom night! This incredible event includes food, games, DJ, entertainment, activities, tons of prizes and giveaways, and more! It’s important for all grade levels to contribute as these juniors and seniors are your children’s classmates, teammates, neighbors, and friends. Checks payable to Northwest PTSA can be sent to the main office, or you can click here to donate:  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Summers at Thank you in advance for your support!

Northwest Free Store

Thank you to everyone who has donated items for the Free Store!  On a typical day, we have 3-10 students visit the store, and as the new semester begins, students are looking for replacement school supplies for those that have worn out.  As always, we accept all gently used school supplies, such as test prep books and binders, but right now we are in particular need of composition books.  Trinkets are also always welcome to make shopping at the Free Store a fun experience for the students!  Donations can be dropped off in the main office and labeled “Free Store.”

As always, please do not hesitate to call us at any time if you have questions or concerns.  Thank you for your support of Northwest, and have a great evening!
