Physical Education & Health Curricular Information
Physical education aims to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. To pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity, a physically literate individual:
- Has learned the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities,
- Knows the implications and the benefits of involvement in various types of physical activities,
- Participates regularly in physical activity,
- Is physically fit,
- And values physical activity and its contributions to a healthy lifestyle.
All students are asked to bring in the following materials for Physical Education classes:
- Students are encouraged to bring in a change of clothes so that they safely participate in physical education class.
- Athletic Sneakers are needed in order to participate safely in all physical education activities.
- Students are reminded that aerosol deodorant, perfumes, body sprays are not permitted in the locker rooms.
Students also participate in a nine-week health education program.
The 6th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Misuse Prevention, Safety and Violence Prevention, Healthy Eating. There is NOT a Family Life and Human Sexuality unit.
The 7th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Misuse Prevention, Family Life and Human Sexuality and Disease Prevention and Control.
The 8th grade curriculum includes: Mental and Emotional Health, Substance Use and Misuse Prevention, Safety and Violence Prevention, Healthy Eating and Family Life and Human Sexuality.
7th and 8th graders will have a Family Life Preview Night on September 4, 2025, in conjunction with the Back to School Night to preview the Family Life and Human Sexuality Unit. The 7th and 8th grade students can opt out of the Family Life and Human Sexuality unit by returning the opt out form that will be given out on the first week of school and available at the Preview Night.
