The goal of reading intervention is to empower every reader to employ strategies to be successful with challenging text. Reading intervention instruction targets an area of identified need and is provided in addition to core instruction.
The best prevention for intervention is good first teaching. Careful diagnosis and analysis of student performance identifies what is working and what is not working to inform intervention instruction within the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
