1. Who is the intended audience of READ 180?

READ 180 is an intervention for secondary students who need support in reading. It is appropriate for students in general education, special education and ESOL (levels 2 and above) programs.

2. For what reading levels is READ 180 appropriate?

Both the middle school and high school stages have reading materials appropriate for students reading from grade 1.5 and above.

3. What are the scheduling requirements for READ 180?

READ 180 is designed to meet 90 minutes daily in addition to English class. Class size is recommended to be between 15-20 students.

4. How do I receive professional development for READ 180?

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt provides training in the summer for READ 180 teachers, reading specialists, and literacy coaches. Registration is available on PDO.

Individual teacher and school support for observation, coaching, and data analysis is available by request. Please email Ashley Dunn to request support.

5. Is there an assessment plan for READ 180?

Yes, administration of the SRI and rSkills tests is expected. Please see the assessment calendar on myMCPS for the assessment windows.

6. What is the difference between the rBook and the Flex rBook?

The rBook is the student book designed to be a resource for students in whole group and small group instruction. The Flex rBook parallels the content of the rBook without duplicating the same texts for students who may need an additional year of READ 180 support. The texts are not sequential, so a whole class may start in either the rBook or the Flex rBook and then alternate to the other text the following year, when needed.
