AFTER-HOURS Resources for MCPS Employees

The MCPS Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. year-round. The EAP office is closed on MCPS holidays, systemwide closures, and when offices are closed during emergency closures of schools (code red).

Please note: If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency, call 911, 988, or go to your closest emergency room. If you or a loved one is in immediate danger, calling 911 and talking with police may be necessary. It is important to notify the operator if it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for police officers trained in crisis intervention or trained to assist people experiencing a psychiatric emergency.

This is not proposed to be a complete list of resources and is not continuously updated. The EAP encourages individuals to explore the resources listed as a reference and to conduct their own research to best identify the most appropriate resource for their situation. Individuals are encouraged to consult with their health insurance for coverage information as applicable. The MCPS EAP offers no-cost, confidential short-term counseling and support to all MCPS employees and their adult household members. Please be advised that the MCPS EAP does not provide consultative or counseling services via email; call 240-740-6500 (Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) to schedule services.

National Resources

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Text Line: Provides 24/7, free, and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress in distress. Call or text 988 (available 24/7). TTY users use the preferred relay service or dial 711 then 988. Chat online in English o en Espanol.
  • NAMI HelpLine: Provides free, nationwide peer-support for information, resource referrals, and support to people living with a mental health condition, their family members, and caregivers, mental health providers, and the public. Call 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) (available Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. ET).
  • Crisis Text Line: Provides access to free, 24/7 support. Text HOME to 741741 (available 24/7) or chat online.
  • Veterans Crisis Line: Provides free and confidential support from responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Call 988 and press 1 or chat online (available 24/7).
  • LGBT National Hotline: Provides free and confidential peer support, information, and local resources. Call 888-843-4564 (available Monday - Friday from 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. ET and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET).
  • Trans Lifeline's Hotline: Provides confidential, peer support phone services run by trans people for trans and questioning peers. Call 877-565-8860 oprime 2 para hablar con alguien en español (available 24/7).
  • National Sexual Assault Hotline: Provides safe and confidential support, information, advice, and referrals. Call 800-656-HOPE (4673) (available 24/7)
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: Provides free, confidential access to resources and support. Interpretation services are available in more than 140 languages. Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text “Start” to 88788 (available 24/7).
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services National Helpline: Provides confidential, free information in English and Spanish for individuals facing mental health and/or substance use disorders. Referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations are available. Call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) (available 24/7).
  • Eating Disorders Helpline: Provides free support and referrals. Call 1-888-375-7767 (available Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. ET; closed on holidays).

Montgomery County, Maryland Resources

  • Montgomery County Crisis Center: provides free immediate responses to crisis situations through telephone, walk-in, and mobile outreach services. Call 240-777-4000 or 240-777-4815 (TTY) or visit 1301 Piccard Drive, Rockville, MD 20850 (available 24/7).
  • MC311: provides basic, non-emergency information about government services in Montgomery County. Translation assistance is available in over 150 languages. Call 311 or 240-777-0311 if you are calling outside of Montgomery County (available Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.).
  • ACCESS to Behavioral Health Services: provides assessment and linkages for low-income adults living in Montgomery County who do not have commercial insurance and need services for major mental health and/or substance misuse concerns. Services include telephone, in-person, or telehealth clinical assessment, financial screening and referral for public services, and more. Call 240-777-1770 and leave a message as needed for a return call. Calls are returned within one business day. 
  • Montgomery County Abused Persons Program: provides crisis and ongoing counseling, shelter, support, and advocacy services to victims of partner-related domestic abuse/violence and their families. Services may also be accessed via the Montgomery County Crisis Center. Call 240-777-4210 (available 24/7)
  • Family Justice Center: provides advocacy, government, civil legal services, and social services for victims of domestic violence and their children. Anyone who is experiencing or has experienced domestic violence is eligible to receive services. Services are free and available in any language. Call 240-777-0444 or in-person at 600 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 500, Rockville, MD 20852. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours (available Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.).
  • Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling Helpline: provides free and confidential support and counseling. Calls can be answered with TTY and in over 160 languages. Call or text 1-800-426-2537 or chat online (available 24/7).
  • Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.): meeting information available for Washington Area Intergroup Association Meetings, Montgomery County meeting schedules and information, and Spanish-speaking meetings
  • Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.): meeting information available for Chesapeake and Potomac Region Montgomery Area Meetings.

  • Grassroots Crisis Intervention: Provides free services, including a 24-hour general crisis line,  24-hour walk-in counseling and substance use services, survivors of suicide loss support group, and a mobile crisis team. They also provide shelter services for families, individuals, and cold weather.   • Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center for Anne Arundel County: Provides same-day and next-day appointments at Arundel Lodge at Luminis Health Urgent Care Center, Hospital Pavilion, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401. Call 443-590-3224 (available Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.).
  • YMCA of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County: Provides a safe, healing environment and support services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services are offered on a sliding fee scale or free of charge for clients who do not have the means to pay. Call 410-222-6800 (available 24/7).

  • Annapolis Area Intergroup: provides a 24-hour hotline for help with a drinking problem, walk-in visits, and A.A. meetings in the Anne Arundel County area. Virginia Resources

  • 2-1-1 Virginia: Provides free information and referrals for basic human needs, including food banks, shelters, rent or utility assistance, physical and mental health resources, and more. Virginia residents can call 211 (available 24/7).
  • CR2 Community Regional Crisis Response: Provides 24-hour response to those facing a mental health and/or substance use crisis who may be at risk for hospitalization. CR2 services are provided at no-cost. CR2 services are available for residents of Alexandria City, Arlington County, Fairfax City, Fairfax County, Falls Church City, Manassas City, Manassas Park City, Prince William County, and Loudoun County.   • Community Services Board (CSB) Contact Information: CSBs can help people in Virginia with mental health, intellectual disability, and/or substance use disorder needs. CSBs provide pre-admission screening services 24/7.  
  • Mental Health of America of Virginia Warm Line: Provides a peer support service for residents of Virginia and offers individualized support an coping strategies, local area resources and support groups, and more.
