RM ELD Department
The goal of the ELD: English Language Development program at Richard Montgomery High School is to support students as they acquire language and master content. Guided by the WIDA standards and the Common Core State Standards, the ELD program is designed to integrate language and content so that by the time students exit ELD services, they are ready and able to master grade level content. Students refine their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through the study of the English language.
Students are assigned to courses based on their WIDA ACCESS score designation, as well as teacher recommendation. Possible courses include:
ELD 1
ELD 2/ 3
METS Reading
METS Math
Honors English 11 and 12, cotaught by an English and ELD Teacher
Students who score between levels 1-3 also take many courses outside of the ELD department but these classes may be cotaught with an ELD teacher, including math, science, and social studies. Students who score between level 4 take the majority of their other courses outside of the ELD department.
