Arts Investigations SyllabusThis 18 week course is an exciting art experience that includes visual art, music, dance/movement and theatre. Students explore the main elements of visual art, music, dance and theatre. They begin to understand how artists organize these elements to create effective artwork, music, dance and theatre. Through projects, students investigate the art of other cultures, heighten their sensitivity to the arts, and begin to apply criteria for recognizing quality in the various art forms. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate mastery of indicators of the Maryland State Department of Education Voluntary State Curriculum for visual art, music, dance, and theatre. By the end of Grade 6 students should be able to do the following: -Visual Art: Plan artworks based on historical, cultural, or social themes to communicate personal beliefs, customs, or societal values. -Music: Compare functions of music and conditions under which music is performed in various cultures. -Dance: Describe characteristics and origins of various styles and forms of dance within and among cultures. -Theatre: Identify and define character types, scenarios, and themes in plays from a variety of cultures, historical periods, and social contexts. -Identify aesthetic elements in visual art, music, dance, and theatre. -Use appropriate vocabulary to discuss and critique artwork, music, dance, and theatre. -Use themes and subjects including those related to other curriculum areas. -Demonstrate responsibility in the care and safe use of art materials, tools, equipment, and facilities Last Updated March 20, 2008 |
