The Physical Education Department
MEANING OF THE GRADE: Grades are an accurate reflection of student achievement compared to
grade level or course expectations outlined in the curriculum as demonstrated on assessments and
teacher designed tasks (IKA-Grading and Reporting 2003) Achievement grades reflect academic performance only. Students will have multiple opportunities to
attempt course objectives, and to receive feedback. The Learning Skills grades of Work Completion
(completing homework and class work) and Participation (engaging in activities, asking questions, or
contributing ideas) reflect student effort. Work Completion assignments are included in the
Final Grade calculation in addition to receiving a Learning Skills grade. Neither extra credit nor bonus
points will be awarded.
The Final Grade of the marking period is derived using the following calculation:
Final Grade =
90% (50% Summative and 40% Formative) of Overall Achievement Grade + 10% Homework
