 The Physical Education Department

Polices & Procedures

Physical Education is a performance oriented class designed to develop and maintain healthful habits that lead to optimal levels of fitness. Proper diet and a regular program of vigorous exercise are required to reach this objective. Due to the nature of the subject, the following requirements apply to all physical education students.

• Each student must have a complete change of clothing for class. This includes blue or black shorts, white or gray t-shirt, socks and tennis shoes. Appropriate clothing for cold weather includes sweatpants, sweatshirt and/or a warm-up suit. All clothing must be marked with the student’s first and last name. Students may not wear “cut-offs”, jeans, spandex, stretch pants, tights or tank tops in class. Students must come prepared to go outside in cold or warm weather.

• Students must report to the locker room on time. The Wood attendance policies are to be followed. For security, all students should keep their locker locked at all times. Students should not give their locker combination
to anyone.

• Students may be excused from activity by a parent/guardian’s note for up to four consecutive days. Students are expected to dress on those days. A doctor’s note is required for five or more days. Alternate activities and/or assignments will be given to make up those days.

Shower & Towel Fee

Due to the vigorous physical activities in class, washing up after the activity is a healthy practice and shows consideration for others. A clean, disposable towel is provided for each student daily. The required fee for this service is $4.00 per year and must be paid by the end of September. When students attempt to bring a towel from home each day, they frequently forget the towel, lose the towel or forget to take the towel home to be laundered. Storing a wet towel in a locker can produce bacteria and odor.
