Dear Arcola Families,
I hope you and your family are enjoying all the pleasures of summer. I am writing to inform you of the most recent news at Arcola and to give you some important dates to note.
Let me first begin with staffing changes for the 2008-09 school year. Mr. Garvey has left teaching(hopefully only temporarily) to open his own fitness and physical rehabilitation center in Massachusetts. Mrs. Globerman moved with her husband to New Jersey and will be teaching first grade there. Mrs. Free, Ms. Chan, and Mrs. Goyne have moved on to other teaching positions within Montgomery County in an attempt to move closer to home or pursue other opportunities at different grade levels and outside of the classroom. Ms. Lorber, Media Assistant, has taken a position at another school that was able to offer her more hours. We wish all our former Arcola staff members well in their new endeavors. Internally, Mrs. Dupree is moving from first grade to a Reading Focus position. I know she will excel in her new role.
Best wishes to Ms. Shaw and Ms. Valentine who both got married this summer. Ms. Shaw’s new name is Mrs. Nguyen. Ms. Valentine’s new name is Mrs. Chase. Also, congratulations to Mrs. Curry who delivered a healthy baby girl on July 12, 2008.
Please join me in a hearty welcome to our new staff members: Our brand new fifth grade team is Mr. Bryan Chase, Ms. Amy Rosenblum, and Mr. William Thompson. New to first grade are Ms. Sarah Jimenez, Ms. Katie Roden, and Ms. Priscilla Sinon. New to third grade is Ms. Krystle Massey. Ms. Betsy Hill is our new School Community Based(SCB) special education teacher. Ms. Ellen Kaminow is our new part-time Special Education Resource teacher. Ms. Wendy Abid and Ms. Martha Zanger are our part-time Art and Physical Education teachers respectively. Many of the teachers come with prior teaching experience in Montgomery County Public Schools(MCPS), and we know they will all do an outstanding job as part of the Arcola family.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff, hard-working students, and supportive parents for our exceptional performance on the 2008 Maryland School Assessment(MSA). Not only did we meet all state performance targets, we exceeded them in most all subgroups. Again this is a testament to the climate of quality teaching, learning and commitment to high expectations that has been established at Arcola. We are off to a fantastic start in building a reputation as a school of excellence. Much more information will be shared about our state and local school assessment performance during our data presentation in mid-September
