The Burning Tree Media Center provides students with a friendly setting in which they can select books for classroom assignments and leisure reading, do research using both print materials, non-print materials and computers.
The media center operates on a flexible as well as a non-flexible schedule. Grades K-2 have a weekly scheduled visit where they are introduced to literature and taught Media skills--Grades 3-5 are scheduled for specific research projects. Some projects students have worked on this year include Explorers, Mexico, Inventors, and Colonial America.
Having computers with World Wide Web access is bringing a whole new dimension to research. For Thanksgiving students were able to access The Plymouth Plantation in Plymouth, MA for information.
The ultimate aim of the Media Center staff is to have students leave Burning Tree for Pyle Middle School with a love of reading and the skills necessary to locate information for future scholastic endeavors.
