Black Colleges Fair on Feb. 18
Draws Hundreds to Einstein
Einstein High School hosted more than 600 Montgomery County students and family members at the first-ever MCPS fair for historically black colleges and universities on Feb. 18. About 323 students registered for the fair, which ran from 6 to 8 p.m. At tables set up in the Main Street hallway, students spoke to representatives from about 40 colleges and universities, with some from as far away as Alabama, North Carolina and Florida.
"We had 87 on-the-spot admission interviews for seniors," said Rosalie Deoto, career information coordinator. "Of those, 68 were admitted, and 19 are pending."
Deoto worked with county school system officials and Henry Thompson of the Washington Inter-Alumni Council of the United Negro College Fund. Thompson's organization has hosted a black colleges fair in Washington, DC for nearly 30 years.
