Fall Postseason News

Eric Da Silva named 2010 All-Gazette Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year!

Einstein boys cross country coach, Eric Da Silva, was named Coach of the Year by the Gazette, noting that he guided the young Titans to their best finish at the 3A states (second) since the mid 1980s.  This has been an impressive climb for the boys cross country team under Coach Da Silva.  In 2007 for first time in 17 years the boys qualified for the state meet finishing 14th, in 2008 they finished 11th at the state meet, in 2009 they finished 9th and as stated above this year they jumped all the way to 2nd.  This is the fourth time that the Einstein boys have been the state finalist in cross country (1971, 1980 and 1985 were the other three).  Equally impressive is the fact that the program has gone from just a handful of boys to almost 30 runners and from 2 runners in 2007 who could break 18 minutes at the County Championship 5k course to 11 runners in 2010 with 3 of those running under 17 minutes.  Thus, they should continue to be among the elite teams in Maryland 3A.  Congratulations Coach Da Silva, this is obviously well earned and well deserved!

Boys' Cross Country finishes second in the state at the 3A Maryland Cross Country Championships!

Einstein boys cross country team continued its rise to the top of state as they powered to a second place finish at the 3A state cross country championship at Hereford High School. They edged out county rival Quince Orchard by five points finishing with 133 points to take the state runner up position. Only Hereford High School with 63 points was able to beat the Titans. Einstein got strong performances from first through seventh man and were led by Nick Simpson (17th) who just edged out Andrew Ceruzzi (18th), followed by Ben Withbroe (20th) and then Alex Hevey (27th) who just missed earning a medal by 2 seconds and literally ran out of his shoe at the finish, Micky Hagos (51st), Peter Giblin (56th) and Sam Kaiser (67th). All the runners posted personal bests for this course. Quince Orchard had beaten Einstein in all their previous meetings this year from the Magruder Invitational by 81 points, to the Paul Short Invitational by156 points, to the County Championship by 20 points and just a week ago Thursday at the 3A West Region meet by 23 points. The race today under perfect conditions started out at a fast pace and after a mile Einstein was in 6th place overall. However, over the next mile Titans clawed their way to the top and were in third place only two points back of Quince Orchard after two miles. From there, Einstein surged past the Cougars to grab a second place finish. This is the highest finish by an Einstein boys team since 1985 which also finished second. Congratulation boys for a great race and great season as well as Coach Da Silva and Ligon for pushing these guys and having them peak at just the right moment. On the girls side, freshman Lauren Logan who qualified individually from the region meet finished in a fantastic 35th place. Great job Titans!

Cheerleading finishes 3rd in the Montgomery County Cheerleading Competition!
