The health room is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  There is a School Community Health Nurse and Health Room Aide.  Students can get First Aid, and emergency care for injuries or sudden illness occurring during the school day.  The nurse is available for information and consultation regarding health concerns.

Students need a pass from the teacher to come to the health room.  If the student becomes ill at school, and is unable to remain due to illness or injury, a parent or designated person must come pick the student up.  We do not have the facilities for the student to stay for any extended period of time in the health room.

All students are to have on file in the health room a medical form completed by a physician.  This is required to play a sport, and we encourage the exam to be done early, before the sport begins.  Also,  if the student has any permanent or temporary medical condition that interferes with regular school activities, a note from the physician needs to be on file.  This form, SRS 6 is on the MCPS student form website.

There are no medications administered in the health room without the proper form, signed by both parent and physician.  This includes over the counter medications.  All medications are kept in the health room.  Medication form, 525-13 is located at the same web site.

Any student who has a temporary or long term disability in which they need crutches or are unable to navigate the stairs, may use the elevator with a note from their doctor verifying the injury/illness and length of time elevator will be needed.  Students requesting to use the elevator without a physicians note will be instructed to call a parent.

All ill students should make calls home from the health room.  Personal cell phone calls and text messages are discouraged.
