Joseph Umanzor Named Gates Millennium Scholar !
Joseph Umanzor, a senior at Watkins Mill High School, has just been named a Gates Millennium Scholar. Gates Millennium Scholars, initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding students with significant financial need the opportunity to complete an undergraduate education in the academic discipline of their choice. The GMS program selects 1,000 students per year as Gates Scholars. Awards cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and living expenses. Scholars receive funding throughout their academic careers - undergraduate through doctoral degrees - and have the opportunity to graduate debt-free.
