Morning Announcements - 5/22/18
Hello! Today, in honor of Asian/Pacific Heritage Month, we will be discussing Michelle Wie, a Korean-American professional golfer who plays on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour. She was born on October 11, 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the age of 10, she became the youngest golf player to ever qualify for a USGA amateur scholarship. She was also the youngest golf player to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, and the youngest to qualify for an LPGA Tour event. Ms. Wie became a professional golf player only shortly before her 16th birthday in 2005. Lastly, she won her first major golf championship at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open.
The Wootton Track Coaches would like to congratulate the following athlete who qualified to compete in the 4A State Track and Field Championship meet at Morgan State University this Memorial Day weekend. These athletes were able to advance to States from their great performances at the 4A West Regional meet held last week. Individual event qualifiers for states are, Erin Chelf - 800 meters, Jessica Trzeciak -1600 meters, John Riker - 3200 meters, and Ambrose Devine - 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Ambrose is the 4A West Regional Champion in the 300 meter hurdles. The following relay teams will also be competing at the state meet. Adna Trakic, Jessica Trzeciak, Madeline Grainger, and Erin Chelf will be running the girls 4x800 meter relay and Angel Porter, Grace Osman, Ana Scherf, and Kayla Hill will be running the girls 4x400 meter relay. Finally, the boys relay team qualifiers of Joe Pohoryles, Mitchell Fanger, Jacob Smith and Julien Bastin are running the 4x800 meter relay and Keith Cartwright, Shayne Brooks, Julien Bastin, and Ambrose Devine will be running the 4x400 meter relay. Please be sure to congratulate and wish these athletes all the best for this upcoming weekend.
The Wootton Band Boosters will be hosting a Yard Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, May 26th from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM to raise money for the Wootton High School Music Program. The yard sale will take place in front of the school along Wootton Parkway. We will be accepting donations for the event on Friday, May 25th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and on Saturday, May 26th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Please support the Wootton Music Program by donating items for the yard sale. Tell our family, friends, and neighbors to check out the yard sale. Allunsold items will be donated to Purple Heart at the end of the event. Go to GoGreenDrop to find out what we can/cannot accept as donations. If you ordered a yearbook and have not picked it up yet, go to Mrs. Moomau’s room 254 during lunch. If you did not order a yearbook and would like to purchase one, please go to the financial office before school, during lunch, or after school.
