College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

NEW! Northwest High School hosts a Financial Aid Seminar on Tuesday, October 2 at 6:30 pm.  The seminar will be presented in both English (Auditorium) and Spanish (Room 251).  No registration required to attend.  The information presented will be most relevant to the Class of 2019.  The seminar will include information on ways to pay for college and/or career postsecondary plans, how to access and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a breakdown of financial aid terms, tips and tools.  | web post 18-Sept 13 |

NEW! Get ConnectEd,LLC will host an Ethnic Youth College Fair for Minority Students to be held at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center (10000 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD) on Sunday, October 14 from 1 to 3:30 pm.  This fair will give students an opportunity to meet with college representatives from across the country and gather pertinent information about the college process as well as plan a course of study for their designated track.  Senior students should come prepared with copies of their transcript and SAT/ACT scores.  For more information, visit Ethnic Youth College Fair for Minority Students.  This event is FREE.  | web post 18-Sept 21 |

Reminder Notice Image The Montgomery County Student Leadership webpage has been updated with all the materials required to apply for the 2019 Maryland State General Assembly Page Program  Applications are now being accepted!  Applicants must be a high school senior, at least 16 years of age, with an interest in government or history.  Selected students will receive a daily stipend and will serve two nonconsecutive weeks in either the Senate or the House of Delegates.  Applicants must have or obtain a Social Security number and have an average or above-average scholastic record. Click here for access to the application materials and additional information about the program.  The deadline for application is Friday, October 26; 5:00 pm.| web post 18-Sept 11 |

Paw Print TranZed Academy for Working Students (TAWS)!  The TranZed Academy is a new program for next year's high school seniors.  MCPS is implementing an apprenticeship program with 60 slots available.  Are you planning to work throughout your senior year?  Would you like to have a more flexible schedule so you can better balance your work and school schedule?  If so, the TranZed program might be a great fit for you.  Visit the TranZed Academy website for more information and to apply.  Please note the entrance requirements listed.

Montgomery College Information:

NWHS Jaguar Paw  High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season.  Dates for the 2018-2019 application period TBD.  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 25 June 18 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities. 

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.
