MCEA Members: Planning to Retire July 1? Submit Forms by April 1
MCEA members who are vested and are considering retiring or terminating at the end of this school year may be eligible for a higher sick leave payout if they submit their retirement forms or resignation by April 1. Learn more.
Eligible Employees to Receive Salary Increase on February 8
Fiscal year 2014 budget and employee association agreements approved by the Board of Education last spring allow for salary increases for eligible MCPS employees to take effect on February 8, 2014, the first day of the February 8–21, 2014 pay period. MCPS employees are paid two weeks after the last day of a pay period. This means that if you are eligible for the FY 2014 step increase, you will receive it beginning with your March 7, 2014 paycheck. Determine your eligibility for the February 8 salary increase here.
W-2s for 2013 have been printed and distributed. Most employees received their W-2 form at their worksites the week of January 21, 2014. Those without an identified worksite for mail distribution should have received their W-2 at their home address of record. W-2s sent to incorrect addresses and returned to the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) are being held for pick up. Requests for replacement W-2s will be accepted after February 7, 2014. Notice of Settlement Re: Aetna Out-of-Network Reimbursement
Employees using out-of-network services with an Aetna plan effective March 2001–August 2013 will receive notice that they may be eligible to participate in a class action settlement. Aetna has shared this information with the Employee and Retiree Service Center related to the settlement. If you have questions about the settlement or how to file a claim, contact the settlement administrator referred to in the notice you receive from Aetna.
ERSC Implementing Policy Changes as a Result of DOMA Ruling
As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), ERSC is implementing policy changes for MCPS employees who currently carry domestic partner health coverage and are married. Employees who currently carry domestic partner health coverage will receive a letter from ERSC dated October 1, 2013 that explains the results of the ruling. This includes discontinuation of federal (and state if applicable) taxes to imputed income for those in same-sex marriages. To receive the tax benefit, married recipients of the letter are asked to submit a copy of their marriage certificate to ERSC by scanning it and e-mailing a PDF to ERSC@mcpsmd.org, or by mailing it to ERSC at 45 W. Health Exchange Notifications
The health exchange portion of the Affordable Care Act has gone into effect, ushering in a new way to shop for health insurance. To help you make health insurance decisions for you and your family, the federal government requires employers to provide employees with a document, New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Your Health Coverage. Keep Your Personal Information Up to Date
Are you planning a move? Make sure to update your address with the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) by submitting MCPS Form 445-1: Change in Personal Information. This will ensure that you receive important retiree information, especially details regarding fall Open Enrollment. You also will need to update your address with the Maryland State Retirement Agency. Visit the ERSC Retiree Forms web page, where you will find links to the necessary forms.
