Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) Summer Teacher Institute
Our third Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) Summer Teacher Institute will take place on June 16–20, 2008. During this five-day workshop, teachers will work with nationally-known consultants to develop standards-based materials for teaching and assessing Chinese and Japanese. The institute will be held at Walt Whitman High School, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Funding for the institute is provided by the International Research and Studies Grant, Meeting the Standards for Less Commonly Taught Languages.

Karen Willetts from Springbrook HS won a $10,000 grant
Springbrook High School teacher Karen Willetts and Springbrook’s Foreign Language Department won a $10,000 grant from the National Foreign Language Center of the University of Maryland’s STARTALK project. Their proposal was titled “Arabic Summer Institute: An Introduction to the Arabic Language and Cultures.”
