Grants Management 102

Proper management of grants is important to achieving your project's goals and to ensuring the future funding of your grant or other grant applications submitted by MCPS, and to the integrity of your program.  Only a full-time MCPS employee can be the official manager of a grant.  If the grant can pay for someone to help the  project manager, a coordinator of the grant-funded program is hired as a contractual employee. Project coordinators assist with the daily activities funded by the grant.  All MCPS grant managers are assisted by the fiscal assistants in their divisions and the budget specialists assigned to their division who work in the Department of Management, Budget, and Planning.

Management requirements vary greatly among grants awarded by private organizations and foundation.  The grants specialist will help you to determine how best to fulfill these requirements.  Government-funded grants have much more detailed requirements and standards for their management. The links below take you to documents that either provide samples for you to follow, or explain what is required for the proper management of federal grants.
